RXN Group is looking for intellectual, organized, and curious graduate students to work alongside our research team to conduct in-depth research topics related to trends in innovation, markets, law & policy, and society. This position is for the Spring semester.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research on "ripped from the headlines topics" in business and policy
  • Conducting analysis on how trends in innovation, markets, law & policy, and society affect current topics of interest and identifying original insights
  • Supporting related additional research (e.g., interviews) related to such analyses as appropriate
  • Identify (and sometimes contact) key principals, stakeholders, influencers, and experts related to the above research
  • Develop reports or presentations of the above research and archive research files (literature review, reports, etc.) as directed
  • Brief other team members and trusted partners/experts on your work at regular intervals
  • Participate in regular update meetings/calls to keep people apprised of progress and brainstorm research challenges and opportunities as they arise
  • Optionally write and publish blog posts or other formats with your byline, based on your research, that can be published (with permission)
  • Optionally speak at conferences or other events about aspects of your research (with permission)

Skills needed:

  • Education or background in topics generally tied to innovation, markets, law & policy, and society (e.g., business, economics, public policy, science & technology, innovation & culture, sociology, higher education). (We do not expect that anyone will be well-versed in all of these.)
  • An interest in and general knowledge about technology and innovation and how our world and society are changing because of it
  • An understanding of and ability to apply the scientific method, hypothesis testing, and "first principles" thinking
  • Exceptional analytical, writing, and communications skills
  • Experience working with qualitative or quantitative data as commonly used in social sciences and policy research (e.g., polling, interviews, modeling, literature searches)
  • Intellectual, curious, versatile, and agile
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and hard working

This role is ideal for graduate students to get real-world experience that complements classroom work. Ideally, they will learn not only about issues "ripped from the headlines" but also broaden their perspective by looking at complex problems through several lenses at the same time to develop insights.

We have in mind for this position Master's students in economics, policy, government and related topics, but welcome applications from PhD, MBA, JD, LLM and similar students. This position is for the Spring semester of school (approx. Jan-May 2023).

Reports to: Chief Research Officer

Details:

  • Spring semester beginning in January
  • Part time / Contract
  • 100% remote work
  • Approx. 20 hours / week (exact number negotiable)
  • $25/hr
